I had only slightly higher than average SAT scores (1250) but I had great grades and was an IB Diploma recipient. I knew I was fine though my SAT scores were a little lower than average at WM. I applied Early Decision which gives you a little boost and I made it in. I would suggest everyone in a similar situation to apply Early Decision.

I had very good grades/high class rank and a high ACT in high school, but really I just applied here on a whim. I was never caught up in the whole college applications race, and thank god for that, but top students from virginia, particularly guys, should be admitted here, while top female students from out of state could face significant difficulties, as it is tough to get admitted.

Amazing SATs (2320), decent grades in lots of challenging classes, a really interesting supplement and some weird hobbies.

1. skip the senior year slump and really buckle down. high grades in senior year will stand out above those who drop. it also indicates to reviewers you are capable of college work.
2. pick an activity and stick with it. a sport or a musical instrument. reviewers like someone who can keep themselves busy and show diversified interests. bear in mind there is virtually nothing to do in the neighboring town, so extracurricular activities driven by YOU are very important.
3. initiate and carry through at least one social event that you can talk about on your app. See #2 for why.
4. work very hard on your narrative portion of your app.
