Business - Management and Administration
Getting in to FIT is difficult for me at least. They are very unbending with their admission. I was put through the hoops trying to get in and stay in, even though I am a straight "A" student there. Even though my first language is not English, It does not matter to them that I graduated from an American College, I still have to proof to them I understand English. It does not matter to them that I worked for fortune 500 company in US for years and still employed by it. I was force to take the TOEFL, out of possible 120 points, I scored 118. Then the Health Department's blunder, they do not accept a blood test report of a Rubella antibody that is just 0.0001 under the standard. I was trying to get pregnant and refuse to take the shot, since I do have the anti-body, I was told to get my doctor's note to say I do not have to get the shot every three months, or I can not register for classes. Then, when I finally show signs that I do have the sufficient antibody, they lose my record, and I am suppose to re-test for all the antibodies. That is incompetent to an extreme.

BEWARE OF ADMISSIONS!!! Many people had serious problems because they don't know how to do it. I had to wait a year for enrollment because the school's lack of interior communication among one another. My roommate also had to hand in his financial aid forms 3 TIMES to the same guy because they keep losing it and insist that it was never filed, even with the official school stamp on it. Major failure for a school that claims to be part of SUNY.

I sold myself as best I could. Because there is no interview, your paper must describe why you are great and why they want you at their school. You’ve got to prove your personality on paper, which isn’t so easy! Also, applying to the business school I did not have a portfolio so the essay was my best chance to show and describe my skills. I submitted a resume of all my fashion-related school activities (fashion editor of the high school newspaper, costume chair of the senior show, etc.) and also my other volunteer and extra-curricular. I pushed my SAT's and GPA because they were high, and talked about my jobs in high school. I submitted a picture of myself, articles from the newspaper, and anything I could think of to be more than just a name on paper. I wanted them to see me as an individual with a deep passion for the fashion industry. Show them that you are driven, independent, tenacious, intelligent and a self-motivator. These five qualities are what the admissions people are looking for in their students.

Have experience in what it is you want to do atleast somewhat and show that you have a passion for what it is you are applying for. Don't joke too much and be very precise with your application and portfolio, making sure that everything is in on time. Be able to draw or have magnificent grades if you can't. Also be yourself and don't be nervous! They are very nice people.
