The dorms and classrooms are nasty and animal infested. The cafe has been rated the WORST in the nation by the Princeton Review. When I was here I witnessed a touch come running out of the kitchen. After that I WAS DONE!!! If you are on a tour they will only take you inside the student center which is the only updated building on campus. The teachers are unhelpful and beyond arrogant. The surrounding tows are VERY dangerous! The University looks for reasons to kick students out so they can keep your money and fill your spot with another unknowing fool who they have baited into coming to the school. They do this by randomly searching rooms and if they find anything they consider contraband (microwaves, lighters, refrigerators) you are out by 5 pm that day. Freshman are not allowed cars and have an 11 pm curfew. DO NOT waist your time or your money coming to Hampton the school has less than a 30% retention rate that speaks for itself. To start with Hampton wasn't my first choice school because I'm not all about HBCU's but my parents wanted me to stay home and go to community college and that wasn't going to happen and I wanted to get away from home as fast as possible so I went. A good thing that Hampton made me do was go to pre-college. Which aloud me to take 2 classes and get credit for them while getting me adjusted to the campus and new people. It lasted 5-weeks and we had a curfew the entire time, 11P.M. during the week and 1A.M. on the weeked. and my dorm was the most DISGUSTING building I've ever stayed in. When I started my freshmen year I was more adapted than the newer freshmen that didn't know where any of the buildings were. Also the freshmen dorms and THE WORST DORMS EVERRRRRRR... Whatever you do DO NOT get on any of the elevators on campus unless absolutely necessary because there is a good chance you will get stuck on one. They rarely turn on the air. It could be mid spring and they will still have the heat on but you can control if it's on or off but can't control the temperature. A good majority of the teachers are foreign, majority african and you really have to focus to understand anything that their saying. Plus most teacher's just don't care, it's like they want you to fail, and alot of teachers just don't show up to class a lot, the first couple of times your happy but when their absence starts to effect your grade I don't think you'll be happy about that. Hampton is a very image based school. The president makes everything look good on the outside but thats it. All of the buildings are old and need renovation except the Student which has a Chick-fil-a( trust me that gets old real fast). The cafe food is absolutely disgusting. People have had bugs fall into their food, and also one of the dorms had racoons in the attic. Hampton has had several girls get raped, if you live in the Harbors Apartments( across the street from the campus)you better get an alarm system, and there's always party's going on and people being loud and ignorant outside. The campus police do nothing but have people cars towed. The best way to avoid something happening to you, you should travel in packs of 3 or more especially females there are alot of "creepers" that would love to have a freshman girl.
Overall this school is not worth $30,000. You don't know what your money goes toward, the people in the admissions and registrar office are beyond rude and the teacher's don't teach. I went there for 2 years and don't feel like I've learned anything. I've already been accepted to transfer to another school and many people choose to transfer because they also feel that the school is a waste of money Business - Management and Administration
| May 11 2011 | I almost didn't get in but i had to go to the summer bridge program so I liked that they gave me a second chance. They'd probably let farm animals into Hampton if they had GPAs and $30,000. It's not hard, you write an essay, pay the $35 application fee and can basically ensure your enrollment. They say the minimum GPA is 2.5, but eh. Give or take. |
