This school loves seeing original work but also include a lot of technical drawing. Most of your portfolio should be original work and half of it needs to be figure drawing or some kind of hint that you're capable of growing technically. Your freshman year will basically working on art as a whole, disregarding your major, and they love to see painting, drawing, and 3D art skills.

Kansas City Art Institute has a 78% acceptance rate. Basically as long as your willing to pay to attend and are somewhat serious about staying, you're in. Make sure you bring up that you are an outside thinker when you visit for the portfolio review and that your work means something to you.
