Be original. I had solid grades, pretty good test scores, and had a job in high school. But I also wrote a kick-ass essay for my application, interviewed, visited, and made clear that I'm not a boring kid. Students in my class have created new languages, been in the army, and written novels. One kid helped baboons in Africa. Within freshman year we've put up solar panels. Basically, everyone's a little quirky. It's necessary.
