Beautiful campus and surrounding area located in rural PennsylvaniaNov 25 2012Psychology
Beautiful campus and surrounding area located in rural Pennsylvania. However many of the students tend to stick with their cliques that they were apart of in high school, because most students are from Pennsylvania. This made making friends difficult for a student such as myself because I transferred in my junior year. I met a few cool people along the way, but for the most part Mansfield is not a very friendly and inviting campus. Another problem that began to arise as I was getting ready to graduate was an increase in violence. One guy came back to the dorms drunk and stabbed an RA with a screwdriver, and another guy started beating on two girls in the dorms when he was drunk as well. I would recommend living off campus because an apartment such as ?The Commons? is much cleaner and safer than the campus dorms. In terms of the food, it really isn?t bad in my opinion, because it is typical cafeteria food. However, during the weekends the quality of the food takes a nose dive because there aren?t as many students on campus during the weekends. In terms of academics, many cuts to various departments have taken place in the language, physics, and theatre department and the quality of education is slowly diminishing on the campus. However, in the psychology department the professors are high quality in my opinion and I felt that I received a good education because they still challenged their students. Overall, I would only recommend this campus for those intending to major in education or music. This school has a strong reputation for an exceptional education and music program but the job outlook for these disciplines is terrible currently. The new President of the university will have a lot on his hands in terms of trying to get enrollment up.
