Get good grades, and find a subject which you are passionate about which has a context in the greater world. It can be weird. I wrote my admissions essay about how I felt passionate that if America is going to be claimed as a free market capitalist state, I should be able to sell my kidney for slushies. I promise, it sounded really articulate and clever when I was 17.

Mount Holyoke is an institution that really values writing. In your essay, make sure it shows that you really want to come here. Emphasize extracurricular activities in which you have a genuine passion. Definitely arrange for an interview and network with alumnae and current students, if you can.

SATs, well written essays, lots of fun extracurriculars. It sounds cliched, but just being yourself (especially in the interview) helps a lot.
