Each year, admission to Marist becomes more and more competitive. A good high school GPA and relatively high standardized test scores are important factors of the application, but there are other aspects that will be considered while reviewing your application. For students that are interested in Marist and wish to attend within the next few years, I recommend taking courses in high school that are challenging, but you are capable of doing well in. For students (seniors) applying to Marist immediately, I would suggest searching for something(s) to put in your application to make you stand out among the other students. By going into detail about your specific interests and activities or writing a unique and well-written essay, it may help in the event that admission is once again highly competitive. Write an amazing essay, think outside the box and be original. I do not know what to recommend to get into Marist because I don't know exactly what they are looking for. But I'll tell you a little about me and what I did when I was applying for Marist, hopefully it will help. I worked hard in high school, I took honors and AP classes. I got almost straight A's and I was involved in clubs and extracurriculars. I submitted my ACT score (it was better than my SAT). My essay was about a family tradition of mine, Pizza Monday. And when I went to visit Marist, I had a meeting with someone from admissions. As with all colleges though, they are definitely trying to get a more diverse student body and everyone has a chance to apply, so if you are interested, then I would suggest applying. Communications

To get into Marist I worked really hard all through high school, including my senior year. Don't slack off! Take challenging courses (honors, AP), it looks good on a transcript and you'll learn more. I took an SAT prep class to study for the SAT's and I took them multiple times but definitely take the ACT's as well because I personally think they're easier. Participate in a variety of extra-curriculars! At Marist we are a community and a family so being invoved and active is very important. Lastly, put alot of time and thought into your college essay. Don't leave it to the last minute and be sure that it reflects who you are. Marist wants the best and most well-rounded students out there so be creative! |
