Practice hard and it will pay offJul 12 2011Music - Performance
Practice hard and it will pay off. Take lessons from the teachers you're interested in studying with. Don't listen to others in the warmup room before your audition. Grads, doctoral students, and ungergrads are all auditioning at the same time.
SAT: 1970 Female
As a compNov 26 2005Music - Composition/Theory
As a comp. major, I submitted three scores: one solo, one chamber, one large ensemble. (I should mention that the chamber work was unfinished, and this didn't bother the faculty at all). Your ability to write appropriately for the instruments as well as exhibit continuity of harmonic style (what ever your style happens to be) throughout a piece are important.
As a performance major, although your technique/accuracy etc. are important of course, NEC looks for the overall musician, the performer they can mold you into over the course of 4 years. Wrong notes can be fixed. Musicality can't be suddenly created.
Whatever you do, remember that you are applying to a conservatory because you love music!!!!
