Honestly, I thought my application wasn't that greatMay 21 2007Undecided
Honestly, I thought my application wasn't that great. My stats weren't the most stellar either. However, I had a little dinner with some admissions counselors and they talked about the whole process.
First they look at just your academic credentials and rank you on a numeric scale. Then they look at the rest of your application. All this happens in a series of waves, during which I believe people get weeded out. They look at your app as a whole, so usually not one defining factor will make or break you. Essays are extremely important.

My essays weren't super clever, super well-written, or super cliched, either. They were just really honest. I talked about a bunch of different things about my life that were important to me.

That being said, do not pad your application with loads of extracurriculars. They are looking for what's really important to you (which would normally be reflected in your essays anyway). Make sure your essays correlate with your extracurriculars.

I got guaranteed admission because I playedMar 04 2006Political Science
I got guaranteed admission because I played football. The best/safest way to get in is to be a recruited athlete or to be a legacy. Otherwise cross your little fingers, it's a toss up.
