Get involved. Be responible. If you got in because of your race only or because you were a vet like me, party only on the weekends. I know how hard it is with all the distractions. The fact is it is 17th honorable mention of party schools in the USA according to playboy and we were voted worst sports town in the nation because we drink at tailgates instead of watching our football games. So yes...a lot of distractions. A lot of drinking, sex, and more drinking. Just party on the weekends and stay in on weekdays. STUDY!!
Get involved with organizations. It is pretty cool. It looks good on your resume when you graduate.
If you are black, please understand that whites might be mad at you just because of not who you are, but how much blacks have a bad reputation down at SIU just as the greek system is there. Try hard, don't hang out with people that you know are losers, and just try to get involved with everyone, not just your own race. And don't mention anything negative about race and respect all races.

Just applied to get accepted. SIU was not very selective when I attended, so anyone who did half way decent in high school would likely be accepted. I believe some of the current programs at SIU are now more selective due to limited class sizes.

Anyone can get into this school. It's all house parties and potsmokers. The town is filled with useless burnouts, and carbondale, to myself and many othersl, has provided a miserable experience that is unnecessary to anyone's education.
