Essay (4) | Language - French/Spanish/etc. | Nov 16 2010 | Academic standards are moderately high for admission (see Princeton Review). Make sure the college understands that you have a vested interest in the school, and that you've carefully considered all aspects of the college choice decision making process. Articulating clearly what makes St. Olaf a good match for you in your admissions essay is important. Take time to get to know faculty in your department of interest during the process. Email them, visit their classes - you should find the college and faculty to be remarkably acessible in this way. I worked pretty hard in high school and ended up as class salutatorian. I also had a lot of clubs, accomplishments, etc. that I could 'pad the list' with. I spent a lot of time on the personal essay (I've been TOLD that I excel in essay-writing), and I honestly think this may have been the determining factor in my admission.
