I spent a lot of time on the essaysMay 16 2007Business - Management and Administration
I spent a lot of time on the essays and tailoring them to the college i was interested in. I also didn't tell bullshit stories about being ona team etc. I laid it out cut and dry. I told them what I had to offer and I told them what i was GOING to do there...i let them know I was serious about their school and i promised them an investment in me was an investment in themselves.
I was really involved with extracurriculars in high school,Jul 13 2006Journalism
I was really involved with extracurriculars in high school, which I think helped me stand out. The key thing is that Syracuse admissions people are OBSESSED WITH DIVERSITY so do something to make yourslef look unique. I was school newspaper editor, yearbook editor, and did a lot of community service like Habitat for Humanity. Even if you're a white suburban middle-class girl like me you can get in easily if you just get involved and show a distinct personality. Of course good grades and 1200+ SATs help and Newhouse is extra hard to get into, you need mostly As and around a 1300 for that.
SAT: 1300 Female
To get into here I went to a communityMar 21 2006Business - Management and Administration
To get into here I went to a community college for two years. I had a 4.0 for two years in a row there. I wrote a really good college SA too.
SAT: 1000 Male
I recommend checking financial aid at other schoolsMar 02 2006Electrical Engineering
I recommend checking financial aid at other schools. If you NEED monry to attend SU, you cannot afford it.
Well for my major (film), I had to sendDec 10 2005Fine Arts - Painting/Sculpture/Photography/etc
Well for my major (film), I had to send in a portfolio demonstrating my abilities in the field. I highly suggest to any candidates trying to get into VPA to do a very good job on their porfolio because it is extremely competitive, especially film.

My SAT score was crap compared to everyone else's (1130) but I seemed to be on level/above average in terms of GPA (3.6). Taking AP classes is key, if they see you take college credit classes in high school and do good on them, your chances of getting in gets that much better. Be sure to be heavily involved at school in some aspect, because they won't let you in if you did nothing with your life in high school.

Take school seriously, have a good class rank/SAT score/GPA and you should be on your way to SU!
SAT: 1130 Male
