Potsdam wasn't my first choice but I got in no sweat. If you have a lot of extracurricular activities and decent grades in high school, I wouldn't worry about getting in.

The school has a variety of ways to get in. Even if your grades aren't that good. Do your essay!!!

I was originally denied, and than accepted only a week before classes started because of my racial status. The school desperately seeks diversity and therefore will accept you based on that fact.

They say they want an 87 gpa out of high school, and i and alot of other current students got in with gpa's substatially less. Basically if you have a high SAT and a lower gpa you'll get in. I believe you'll get in with the same vice versa. Lots of Extracurricular activities don't hurt either.

I had a very good GPA, higher than their average SAT/ACT, and many extra-curriculars/awards. Potsdam isn't an extremely competitive school to get into, I've heard. It was considered one of my safety schools. Just get involved and try and do your best during HS.

The school is not extremely difficult to get into. If you show potential you have a good shot at getting. For me personally I had a fairly low GPA in High School, but my SAT scores were above the average for the school at the time. This did not earn me much in the way of scholarships, but I did get into the school. This doesnt mean anyone can get in regardless of past academic performance.

*The school reccomends adding in essay even though it may not be required to help show this.

The school also has a BRIDGES program for students, which allows you the chance to gain admittance if you do not meet all the general academic standards but show the potential to make up for it in college. I'm not sure what qualifies you for this program, you'd have to look into it. But I know a few people who were admitted in this fashion, and they seem to be doing fairly well.

As for the Music School, it is very competitive from what I hear, but it may depend on what concentration you auditon under. A Tenor may have a better shot at being allowed in than a Soprano because Sopranos are far more common, and therefore the competition is larger.

Education is expensive, even at a state school. It is advisable to do as best you can academically in order to qualify for scholarships.
