Be yourself and focus more on who you areDec 04 2017Fine Arts - Painting/Sculpture/Photography/etc
Be yourself and focus more on who you are as opposed to your portfolio. I had no portfolio when I applied to sva and was accepted on the basis of my creative makeup as a person. SVA is a Real art school and they know who the true seekers are versus the art phonies and highschool losers. My only complaint about sva is that the social scene there is non-existent. But you should not show up in nyc expecting the school to provide you with friends. Nyc is a hard place to meet people overall. Its the Big city. Wake up.

To get in, I had my teacher write a great review about my work, talent and passion. But that'll get you so far. Make sure you have an above average portfolio. They focus mainly on your portfolio. Especially in the art program. My friend had a 4.0 average but a below average/ (kind of ugly) portfolio, and she didn't get in. Trust me when I say, if they see how passionate you are in what you do, it'll mirror through your art. And if it's possible, try meeting the faculty in person to make a good impression. Good luck!!!

I submitted a portfolio and a statement of intentMar 21 2014Fine Arts - Painting/Sculpture/Photography/etc
I submitted a portfolio and a statement of intent. For students who are just applying, your portfolio should have cohesive work that is based upon a theme or concept. Don't get tied up in technique and stale/redundant images that we as a society are so overly saturated with. If you've seen one sunset, you've seen em all, its about what happens during the sunset, or even after... Tell a story.
Don't even botherMar 01 2014Video/Media
Don't even bother. Look elsewhere. About 50% of the students, according to this site! wish they had gone elsewhere. Pay attention. That is not good!

I'm talented, and want to transfer to an art school that appreciates and nurtures talent.
