I was automatically admitted under the state of Texas' "Top 10 Percent" rule, since I was in the top 10% of my graduating class. Some advice I would give to someone looking to apply to A&M is take honors/AP classes, get involved in extracurriculars, and strive to get good grades on the college entrance exams. A&M is not as selective as some universities out there, but it is somewhat competitive, so strive for excellence in academics and extracurriculars.

A&M is a very competitive university to get into. Unless you are in the top 10%, you better have something else to make yourself standout. In other words, if you have mediocre grades you need to have a really good SAT score. A&M wants students who are well rounded. Other ways to make yourself stand out is to be very involved in school clubs. Maybe even try to do volunteer work outside of school. For example, somewhere like Big Brothers Big Sisters. I did BBBS my senior year and loved it. Also, it isn't too demanding. You just spend an hour each week mentoring a child that was assigned to you. Another thing you might can do is get a part time job, even if it is only 10-15 hours a week. Then, the admissions counselor will be like this person has decent grades, a great SAT score, very involved in school activities, did community service, and they had a part time job...WOW! GOOD LUCK!
