It was easy getting into the University of Akron. I filled out the application and visited the campus the first chance I got. However it is a misconception that everyone gets in. Though rare, they do deny ppl. A friend from high school had poor grades got in, my other friend's grades were slightly better but still not that good, bc he didn't visit and had no extra curricular activities he got denied. The essay most colleges make you take is optional. Though it is fairly easy to get in, if you have a low GPA and/or low test scores you will be put in the Summit College where you will be put on academic probation and have to do progress reports for a semester (1x middle/ 1x at end of semester). If you do poorly you'll have to do it again next semester and if you do poorly on those, you'll get kicked out. I have heard some ppl don't turn them in and nothing happens but I've also heard that ppl have got kicked out for trying. Personally, I wouldn't chance it.

When I applied, no essay was required!!!!
This may have changed, but I don't think it has. For scholarships, you do write one essay on a prompt for most all university scholarships.
