Essay (11) |
| | I had an average GPA and high SAT scores. I signed up for an interview through the UD's admission office which I believe helped put a face to a name. I made sure I had strong extra curricular activities, including a sport, instrument, job experience, and some volunteer hours. I also made my essay very powerful and interesting. My SAT scores and essay were I think the most important factors. My grades in high school weren't stellar (though I did better at UD) but I had a 720 verbal score and my essay was well-written and fairly unique. It is hard to get in if you are out of state, but really easy to get in if your are from Delaware.
I guess because Delaware is such a small state, less than 40% of the students that go to UD are actually from Delaware. The school wants more DE kids to go there so they make it really easy for them to get in. But the school wants to keep up its good academic reputation so they make it really really hard for out of state students to get in.
My best advice is get 2 or 3 really really good recommendations and write a killer essay and you will be fine -- even if your SAT scores aren't great.
I tried to write a really good essay. Study hard on your SATs
