Tips mention:
Interview (0),
ACT/SAT (34),
Grades (14),
Sports (4),
Essay (11) | Don't be afraid to be creative, inspired, and imaginative. That's what they want. They don't want the token kid who got good grades and didn't do any extracurricular activities because he thought he could get by on brains alone. But these people want innovators. They want passion and excitement in their students rather than just a desire for an A. So take risks. Take AP classes, and don't drop out of them just because you're afraid of getting a B in the course or a 3 on the AP Test. Chances are, you'll do a lot better than you think. And join some clubs that spark your interest. You don't have to be on all the sports teams or be a part of every honor society to get in. Just do something you're interested in and that you can have a fiery conversation about. At least have fire for something. Have a story. Leave a mark. Because your entrance essay is going to need to be inspired rather than generic. SAT scores are important, but your own story and drive and passion are the keys. alot of people think its really hard to get in so they dont apply, but i have seen alot of stupid people with aweful transcripts get in.
getting in isn't so hard as long u hav AT LEAST ONE of the following:
a gpa over 4.0 weighted
a good set of extra-curricular activeties
an SAT score over 1300 (reading and math)
a slightly above-average ACT an awe-inspiring fantastic entrance essay I applied to University of Florida on a whim. My father asked me to do the application just to see if I could get in because he really really liked the idea of a free education. I had sent in my scores from the first time I took the SAT and I wrote the essay for application an hour before it was due (I love online applications.) I read over it recently and I had like three grammatical errors and frankly it was horrible. But I got in... I'm pretty sure it had a lot to do with my high SAT score which got me into the Honors college at UF...I don't think my essay helped me out at all... and my high school extracurriculars had gone from a four sport athlete in my first two years to a zero sport athlete as a senior due to injuries. (something I didn't specify in my application so I just looked like a total slacker) I had a pretty decent GPA, a high SAT score, zero sports, zero reported community service hours, zero outstanding resume components so I'm pretty sure the only reason I got in was that my grades and SAT scores would raise their university statistics (another example of how this university doesn't care about the individual student but rather just about the student as a statistic.) I literally applied to UF the night before the deadline. I really had no intention on coming here so I just used essays from other college apps and lo and behold i got in. I am in the honors college here, and it really isn't all that great. Although, if you can score a 1400 or better on your SAT and you have a weighted 4.0 GPA you might as well do the honors college. they have the best dorms. |
