Here are the stats:
Average GPA for 2011 freshmen class: 3.83
Average SAT Math/Reading: 1240
Average ACT: 28

I honestly did not expect to get into UGA; it becomes the standards rise every year with a new freshman class. However, it's not too difficult if you did everything you were suppose to do in high school. A lot of people graduated Valedictorians, Salutatorians, Star Students, etc. but don't let that discourage you. If you lack in grades, you can make up for it in test scores, vise versa. Extra curricular activities are a also must. Every students has excelled in something, which is why they were accepted. Also make sure to take more rigorous classes in high school.

I took AP classes all 4 years of high school, got a job with a leadership role, and had extracurricular activities at my school. I got good grades and test scores and wrote very good essays. At first I was wait-listed but I was applying toward the end of the application window, so I recommend you apply early.

Write a great essay (write and re-write it until you think it is really really worthy of admission). My SAT was lower than the average score of my peers, but my grades and my essays helped get me in.

DON'T TRANSFER and apply to high-demand majors such as the Terry College of Business, or Grady Journalsm schools. You will NOT get in. Apply to something else first or go undecided so u can get in.
Otherwise as a freshman, just good grades, nice essay, and good extracurricuars. It's increasingly competitive these days though. Oh, and if u are a minority, they will practically pick u up in a limo and escort u to campus. You could probably mispell your own name and they'd let u in! UGA is SO majority white well-to-do students.
