University of Hawai'i at Manoa is a good choice if you're in Hawai'i...an amazing price for the type of living you will endure, and education. HPU would be a waste of money, you might as well pay 5k more and at least get the reputation and better resources at a UC or state college even in CA! I moved here from LA, had been accepted to UCLA, and UCSD. Unfortunately, I was forced to move here for a few years due to my husbands career. You can get whatever you want out of ANY university. You put in the work, study, teach yourself and you will shine through whether you had a "good" professor or not. It's amazing how you people actually think it's "hard" to get into and graduate from UCLA. Sure, it has a much better reputation, but unless you're a science major, it's going to be the same amount of energy and time if you want a 4.0. Yeah, sure it would look better if you went to a more prestigious college when applying to grad school, but if you get near a 3.8-4.0 and are in honors, have experience through research or volunteering in your field, you'll be fine. If you're not going to grad school & you're not staying in Hawai'i...probably not the best choice. general admissions is not too bad. ensure you have at least decent SAT and high school grades. The other route is through the community college that are around the island. However, I do recommend that if there is a specific college you want to enter, research the requirements thoroughly and meet with counselors of the community college and the school. see all avaliable options to you. In my case, going to Kapiolani Community College was better than Windward Community College because I could earn certificates in accounting. If i ever stopped at UH, i still had something that could earn me money. Regarding admissions, Had i done all the pre-business work at WCC or KCC, I could have been in the college already. Because I didn't meet with an advisor and attempted to fulfill the requirements at UH, I made the situation much worse and uglier than it needed to be. I was a transfer from a community college.
