I made the mistake of applying, but if fascism appeals to you I would suggest mentioning how much you love long lines and red tape.

Work hard in high school and don't slack off, it's not as easy to get in as people say it is.

I used the Community College route. There is a compact with Universities in Mass to allow graduating Community College students into any public 4 yr school. With a high eonugh GPA you are allowed directly into the major of your choice. The community colleges (I went to Greenfield Community College) are a good way to prepare for the University. There is a support system at the CC that is available, at the University you will have to create your own.

This place isnt really hard to get into for an instate student. You can get in with a 1190 SAT and a 2.7 GPA for minimums and as your GPA goes up your SAT score can go down. So you could get in with a 980 SAT with a 3.5 GPA or something. Out Of State Students i would imagine have it a little tougher but not much. Probably an SAT of 1100 and a GPA that cracks 3 will be fine. The school has started using a waitlist and is trying to make the quality of student better here, but if your intelligent enough you should have no problem getting in here.

I wrote a really crappy essay but did well on my SAT's. Plus I'm from Mass - that helped a lot.

I was a fairly well-rounded high school student. I got A's and B's and a good GPA.

I was in the top 20% of my class with a 3.7 GPA. I had a few extracurricular activities. UMass took months to send me a decision, they were the last ones I heard from. They gave me the least amount of financial aid but for some reason I enrolled there anyway. It's not too hard to get in, I suggest eraly decision though because they get a ton of applications.
Computer Engineering
Just do better than average on your SAT.
Electrical Engineering
Getting in is easy. Staying in is the hard part.
