I am not sure about in-state criteria but I know that as an out-of-state student Umass is fairly competitive. If you are an out-of-stater looking to attend Umass Amherst, make sure you are maintaining A's And B's and are active in clubs (particularly those that apply to the major you want to get into).

Not applying is the best idea. The school supposedly has competitive admission standards but you would never know it judging by the student body.
