UMBC weights the SAT much more heavily than GPA. I have a friend with 3.8 GPA/1870 SAT, and another friend with a 3.1 GPA/2110 SAT. The latter was admitted and was offered a decent scholarship, while the former was admitted, but offered no money.

Score a 1950+ and you'll definitely be considered for a merit scholarship.

UMBC is getting increasingly hard to get into. You need about a 3.5 GPA and 1900 SAT (M/CR/W-they look at all three) to expect admission.

UMBC is moderately difficult to get into. It received a huge increase in applications for the 2010-2011 school year. One thing I've noticed though is that UMBC seems to place more emphasis upon test scores rather than GPA. Obviously, you can't have a crappy GPA, but UMBC is more likely to accept a student with a 3.0 and a 2100 SAT than a student with a 3.8 and a 1700. Good luck to any prospective students

Good personal statement relevant to course of study. I had low grades but they still let me in.
