The University of Maine - How to Get into Undergraduate UMO
</a>
For an instate student to get in, you have to be in the top half of your high school class, and have SAT scores above 400 in the verbal and math subjects. Out of state students get in no matter what in most cases.
Definitely get involved at your high school---grades are NOT everything! Colleges like to see that you are active around your community! Do some community service, join a club or a sport and stick to it throughout high school. Make sure you get good letters of recommendation from teachers who really know you and try to have a unique essay. Colleges review thousands of applications, so you want to write something that will stand out to the admissions faculty. If you can get an interview that is a great way for admissions to get to know you and for you to ask more personal questions about the campus! SAT scores are not everything--try your best, but good grades and an active resume will hold more weight!
