I had low grades but a high ACT and that was enough to get a scholarship. Its really not hard to get into OU>

I had a ton of extracurricular activities from high school (and do here as well) and kept my grades up.

Getting into OU can be quite competitive. It is a lot harder to get into OU if you are an out-of-state student than if you are actually from Oklahoma. I'm from Texas, and I did not meet the automatic admission requirements, but I did meet the wait-list requirements. I knew ahead of time that I wasn't going to get accepted right away and that I would be wait-listed, so I sent in 2 letters of recommendation, a resume, and a profile of my high school, along with my application for admission. OU sent me a letter around the beginning of november saying that i would be wait-listed and that i wouldn't find out until as early as april or may if i actually would be admitted into their college. Surprisingly around the beginning/mid-december OU sent me an acceptance letter, even though they said i was wait-listed and that they wouldnt notify me until the spring. I'm assuming that they accepted me early because 1.) i applied early (the earlier you apply, the better your chances are of getting admitted). 2.) i sent in recommendation letters from my counselor and one of my past teachers. 3.) i sent in an extracurricular resume. So if you don't meet automatic admission requirements, send in extra stuff (rec letters, resume, take SAT/ACT tests again and try to improve your scores) and don't wait around until spring.

I applied for admissions and scholarships. My advice is to not forget to apply for scholarhips! There are so many available it would be a shame if you didn't get one because you put it off! Also, apply for financial aid. Even if you're National Merit, I'd recommend you do this!

I had a 32 ACT plus a B+ average in high school. Getting initially accepted was a slam dunk for me. Since I entered OU in 1972, current admitance criteria is certainly tweaked from what was required of me.
When I went to OU, the Engineering College required a 28 ACT for acceptance. The other Colleges would accept anyone that met the minium accademic standards required for a student in good academic standing. Freshman were in Universtity College and it was the Sophmore year when you stepped into the College that your major field was in.
Education
Last 6 semesters averaged a 3.5.
