However, make sure that you do well in school; try to jump up in class rank, do well on your SAT or ACT, have a good GPA. USI gives lots of scholarships and they are happy to increase your scholarship if you do well during your senior year. I am receiving $4000 in scholarships from USI. After my seventh semester of HS, I sent the admissions office my new class rank (I jumped 9 places) and I received an extra $200 on my departmental scholarship. Sure, $200 isn't a ton, but it's definitely better than nothing; and besides, USI is cheap, so even small amounts really cut down your cost. :) Also, if you make decent grades and plan on applying to a certain program or school within the university, try to see if you can get early admission. For example, I'm a nursing major and I was accepted direct admit to the nursing program, which is something that's pretty awesome because it's so competitive. All I have to do to stay in the program is maintain a 3.0 GPA. If you don't get in the first time, you can go ahead and apply after your sophomore year. But if you have the grades to get into the program direct admit, go ahead and apply, you have nothing to lose! |
