UVA looks for top ranking in your class, high SATs and high SAT IIs. After that, you need to show some differentiation in your activities, abilities and essays. After that, it's just a matter of the numbers.

Getting in is pretty tough. Most of my friends who applied with similar numbers to me were denied right off the bat. My SAT (on the old 1600 scale) was 1450, but I know people in the 1500's who got turned away. A lot of it is in your essays. Don't take them lightly. In many cases they mean the difference between admission and denial.

I really didn't do anything exceptionally well. I had below average SAT scores and probably above average grades in high school. But it seems like most people here had high high-school GPAs and high SAT scores. I think i just lucked out.
