Apply early if you're OOS and really want to go. It definately increases your chance. I was deffered and then picked up in regular admissions.

Scores count. Get the SAT score, get the high GPA, and you're in.

Get involved in several things in high school that you really care about. Give a lot of time to these activities and show that you actually have cared about them and contributed to them- don't just join clubs to add them to the list. Be involved in your community- show that you can think beyond just yourself. Also, excellent grades and test scores are also a must- you have to show the admissions committee that not only do you WANT to be there, but that once you ARE there, you have the brains to succeed.

spend alot of time working on your essays, I think they are one of the things UVA definitely looks at. I'd say, just work hard.. its difficult to get in, but it's amazing once you get there (though still really hard)
