University of the Pacific often sends out "Preferred Applicant"Dec 29 2015Chemistry
University of the Pacific often sends out "Preferred Applicant" emails to students with high scores on the SAT (you must check on your test/collegeboard that you are okay with receiving recruitment emails). I applied using this application instead of the common app because the preferred application is shorter. In my experience, applying early is always better. Admissions is pretty on top of things and will likely give you a decision sooner than other schools. I received my decision two days after they started sending them out.

To be honest, you won't have a difficult time getting into this school even with say, a 2.5 GPA so long as you're not applying to a pre-professional program such as pre-dentistry, pre-law, or pre-pharmacy. If you are applying to a pre-professional program, know that admissions (at least for pre-pharmacy for sure) are rolling and that the programs are HIGHLY competitive. There are ~200 pre-pharmacy slots and admissions will continue to extend the application period for pre-pharmacy until they fill up the slots. Pre-pharmacy has a 50% matriculation rate to pharmacy school. Pre-dentistry is probably the most competitive program and they don't guarantee a place in the graduate school-only an interview.

You will find that Pacific hosts many events such as preview day (for prospective students) and profile day (for accepted students) and I think that the website is very clear on requirements and what the different degrees offer. You can even shadow classes if you wish, just ask the admissions office.

I didn't have excellent grades in High School, but I did have above-average SAT scores and a solid essay. Honestly, write them an essay and kiss their ass. The more likely you are to come and give them an absurd amount of money, the more likely you are to get in. So try and pretend it's your first choice.

A high GPA alone won't guarantee you in here. Make sure you are well rounded and have some sports or community involvement along with your GPA

I worked a full time job, and held at least a part time job since I was 14. I participated in two sports, and was a part of the odyssey of the mind program.
