Essay (3) | admissions is much easier than one thinks..just don't ask for financial help and you will likely get in  The group I hung out with in high school applied to the Ivies and a few schools in midwest- Northwestern, Chicago and Wash U. No doubt, all of the top schools are getting tougher and tougher to get in. It helps to be an under represented minority, but if Asian or White, the numbers certainly work against you. I know a lot of students who thought they would get into all of these midwest schools, but many got into just one or two. The only pattern we picked up was that Early Decision is a smart move. Visit the schools, look for a good fit. Otherwise, show the admissions people that you are legit in your desire to attend. If they sense themselves in the role of a safety school, your chances are slim- they don't need you.
From discussions with other students, go the early decision route if this is your first choice. The school can be a little tough to get into on the regular decision....the famous Wash U. wait list. If wait listed and you still want in, show your desire. Expect volumes of homework assignments. |
