Ever since Dr. Carter has arrived, I guess the academics has gotten more challenging and professors are more strict and teaching freshmen students at more challenging levels, which is great. Therefore, admissions at Johnson C. Smith University is much more competitive and challenging than it once was. I had to type essays, send my transcripts with a grade point average no lower than 3.0 GPA, along with letters of recommendations in order to be accepted. However, my GPA was exactly a 4.0 grade point average when applying, therefore, I was offered the academic scholarship of $20,000 which was the most exciting. I did not know that it was split up each year and semester, so, big thing to know before attending is, UNDERSTAND YOUR AWARD LETTERS OR SCHOLARSHIPS BEFORE ATTENDING, know how much you will have to pay out of pocket and maybe even call the Financial Aid office and have them break it down to you via email or phone. All of the staff and faculty are very welcoming and respectful here at Smith, so if you are looking forward to attending, be ready to receive a stellar education, the Smith-way! GO BULLS!

The Georgetown admissions process is probably the most interesting of the selective schools (I know because I sit on the admissions committee). Each committee consists of admissions officers (who know about the individual high schools and have a broad view of the process), faculty, deans, and students--so all members of the university community are involved. Academics (course selection, grades, class rank, standardized tests (SAT/ACT, Achievement Tests, AP Exams) and Personal Attributes (essays, recommendations, extracurricular activities, work, travel, interview) are RATED EQUALLY in the process, so it is not uncommon to have valedictorians and people with high SATs to be denied when others from the same high schools with slightly lower academic credentials but stronger personal attributes admitted. Georgetown is filled with people who LOVE the school and has an extremely low attrition rate--the admissions committees do a good job determining who would benefit most from Georgetown and vice-versa--so expressing your enthusiasm for attending the school is a big help (through your application, essays, interview, recommendations).

Get good grades (High B's) and slightly above average SAT scores (1200+), with the addition of challenging classes, (AP's and pass them) and you should be fine. EC's are also a good idea, but you don't have to go overboard.

Be sure to visit the campus when students are here (not in summer). I recommend attending a class and spending the night. Also be sure to interview with a counselor. This helps the Unviersity get to know you beyond your grades and essay.

McGill bases admissions almost completely on grades and standardized test scores.
