Fort Lewis has lowered their standard for acceptance. Granted, they have never been overly challenging. Good back-up school if you want small and all of the things mentioned above. Easy to get in.

The admission to the engineering school is based almost solely on your scores: GPA, SAT I, SAT II Writing, Math IIC, and a science (Physics, Chemistry, or Biology). Ace these, and you'll be fine. Of course, you shouldn't screw up too badly on application, essay, and the two recommendations either.

As far as scores go, Cooper Union is less competitive than Ivy Leagues (no matter what you may read - most of the hype about being "the toughest school to get into" comes from the Art and Architecture schools, for which the competition is very fierce indeed). For instance, my GPA wouldn't have gotten me into Yale/Brown/Dartmouth/Columbia. On the other hand, alumni relations, athletics, or any great extracurricular achievements won't be too much of a help getting into Cooper (unless they are engineering-related).
Hope that helps.
Getting in shouldn't be too difficult.
Do well on your SATs and do as many extracurriculars in high school as possible.
