I graduated from the Newhouse school but was not originally admitted there-- instead they put me in arts and sciences. It worked out great. On your application put that you want to be in newhouse but as a second choice arts and sciences. THen you have 4 semesters to transfer in. And the credits are so easy to transfer between schools and get your core credits done early. and it doesn't put you behind at all.
SAT: 1098 Female
Excellent grades, good SAT scores, lot of extracurricular activitiesAug 09 2006History/Histories (art history/etc.)
When I originally applied, I was not focused onJan 04 2006Other
When I originally applied, I was not focused on my UM application, since my family and I were under the misconception that it should be my "safety" school. Instead, I was focused on my Brown application. In the end, with an acceptance from both, I realized that Miami was more the place for me. However, I had exceptional numbers and resume. I have a 4.3 GPA (I'm the definition of an over-achiever) decent ACT (29), and enough extra-curriculars to kill someone. Plus, my teacher recommendations ( I sent in many more than needed) where mind-blowing. Therefore, my advice to getting in is not very good, however I know that every year UM is getting tougher and tougher. Plus, it is not cheap. My school costs $40,000, which can give many parents a heart-attach. Therefore, if you think you will have trouble financialy, definitly think about whether or not you want to apply. I recomment it, because of financial aid and scholarhsips, but scholarships can be difficult.
ACT: 28 Female
If you can breathe, and live in state, youDec 13 2005Undecided
If you can breathe, and live in state, you will most likely get in. Basically, get about a 18 on your ACT.
ACT: 29 SAT: 1450 Female

The school likes students who are actively involved in their communities--not just their schools.
SAT: 1190 Female
