Be involved in High School and come for an interview, that really helps.
Biology
Just applied. I had a 1260 SAT, 29 ACT, and was ranked in the top 5% of my class. I was involved in a quite a few leadership positions in high school, which I think helped me get the top trustee's scholarship.

In general for any school, take a course/get a book/cd on taking the SAT/ACT, they will teach you a lot of tricks. Fill out the application as soon as you can and do an interview (make sure you dress nicely for it, the admissions officer who interviewed me still remembered me on move-in because I dressed nicely for the interview). Other than that just work hard.
English
I wrote some stuff. Seriously, it was just the basic stuff.
| History/Histories (art history/etc.)
My SAT scores helped get in, but more than anything it is important to get several great recomendations from your highschool teachers. It is also important that you have participated in various activities outside of your classes in highschool, for me this meant running my own business, volunteering at a local adult literacy program, being involved in the National Honor Society, and being involved in several student clubs.
Other
Keep your grades up and be a nice person or at least act like a good person. If you are from someplace other than Pittsburgh you probably have a good chance of getting in also because the school is trying to diversify.
Political Science
LARGE amounts of extracurricular activities with a decent GPA. Allegheny students are heavily involved in student life, whether it's politically, athletically, or with community service.
