As a student, it has been very entertainingSuper BrilliantPreLaw and Legal
As a student, it has been very entertaining but also risky for Drakes future all the lawsuits that have been coming lately. We have an AD that illegally fired two in her department. We have an Assistant Dean of Students that illegally got rid of several students and used it as a platform for getting a promotion to Dean of Students. The President had two choice with the Dean of Students - Promote him and fight the lawsuit or fire him and settle. Settling would be very expensive way to go so that was thrown out the door. The President illegally forced the firing of a Trustee. President, AD, and Dean of Students are all stuck at Drake and have to ride this out since no other college will touch them with this baggage. Drake doesn't have a chance of winning any of these lawsuits which will impact the endowment. Right now Drake is using their law school resources to try and drag all of these out hoping that the people that have lawsuits against them run out of resources. As students, we have bets going on how long we think President, AD, and Dean of Students will last before being fired. Information like this needs to be known so that anyone deciding to come here is aware before committing to Drake. You should be able to find published news that talks about all these lawsuits.

I wish I had this information before IQuite BrightPreLaw and Legal
I wish I had this information before I started at Drake. I will be transferring out after my freshman year to start somewhere else from scratch. I doubt any of my first year classes will transfer. There have been several case of female students falsely accusing male students of unwanted advances. This usually happens after a relationship has ended against the female wishes. The university stance on this is to get rid of the male no matter the evidence. If you are a male I would not attend Drake unless you plan on always being in a group setting and having a girlfriend outside of Drake. Couple of other things to note: two sororities/frats are being investigated so they are not allowed to meet and incoming attendance fell to 767 for this year. Lack of greek interaction is not good for a small campus that relies heavily on these types of groups for social interaction. The president has mentioned that incoming attendance needs to be in the high 800's or low 900's for the university to be viable. If you know of any current students they should be able to provide more information around all of this.

I love Drake, I transferred and it wasQuite BrightPreLaw and Legal
I love Drake, I transferred and it was a total change, but the students and facualty really helped make the transition easy helping me every step of the way and answering any questions I had. The school food may not be the best, but there are food places near by. And as a Drake sutdent you get a lot of discounts on many things around there. Facualty is always available, even if they are not in their office you can always shoot them an e-mail and they respond in a decent amount of time. I e-mailed a teacher at 10:30 one night and they responded back in a short amount of time. As for the social life, you have to get out there and make friends. Yes, if your not 21 you can'tget into bars, but downtown isn't to far away from campus, and there are a few spots that are 18+. There are even more 18+ clubs around the city. As far as the parties on campus... there are some at times, you just have to get out there and make friends that is the only way you are going to be able to know what is going on around campus. It's not like they post when they are having parties around campus for ALL to see.
