I remember sitting in Frost Amphitheater for Freshman Welcoming Ceremony (or whatever it was called!) and having the President tell us that we would be the leaders of our generation. Many of us are. Of course Stanford takes students with great potential who have already demonstrated success in life, but it provides an environment in which you can interact with other extremely bright and talented people including both students, faculty, alumni and visiting guests. The atmosphere is serious, yet California laid-back to a degree (it's hard to get too worried about anything when it's sunny and 75 degrees, which it often is!). But Stanford gave me a lot of self-confidence and polish, and continues to be a great benefit, especially when I meet fellow alumni who are always fascinating people who have had very interesting lives. The networking is invaluable. I would go there again in a heart beat, and wish I could do it all again!!! |
