I am an organ performance major and the teacher that I have ended up with at SFCM is not only technically poor in any repertoire except pre-Bach, but he is a man of many emotional issues. He failed this student on the midtearm for no apparent reason! Charles Rus is the worst organ teacher a performance major could hope to have not only for his narrowmindedness, but his emotional outbursts and unpredictable temperment and this is the reason that I found it necessary to transfer only after a few weeks with him as my major teacher. The rest of the faculty is kind and helpful—most are willing to go out of their way to help their students, but not Charles. This teacher is not even a full-time professor here, and as a result, I do not feel that the adminstration has had a chance to discover his "dark side," but he most certainly has one. Don't make the mistake of going to SFCM if you are an organ major…you will end up spending all of your time transfering like I did! Chucky isn't worth it—avoid this man at all costs! |
