If you are a top quality student who takes advantage of opportunities rather than a whiny loser who can't get out of his victim mentality, your experience here will be excellent. Few schools offer such amazing access to top faculty. I have had dinner with many professors and worked on countless extracurricular projects. The faculty is also helpful inj finding employment. Contrast this with the larger state run (and tax subsidized) schools that stick you in classes with hundreds of students and teachers who are mere grad students. All but two of my classes at Pepperdine had less than 25 students in them.Some will complain of high tuition, because it IS high. But without state tax dollars, tuition doesn't even cover operating expenses. This is true for all private schools that I'm aware of. The school has to rely on donations and revenues from their endowment. So it's not like you're getting ripped off. Also, I'm GLAD the school's president makes a lot of money, because I don't want some average joe running the show.Prospective students should remember that this is a RELIGIOUS INSTITUTION and should not be shocked when the school openly promotes its religious views—that's why George Pepperdine founded the school in the first place. That said, i have found there's as much openness to diverse views as anywhere. Liberal schools like Berkely aren't more open to differing opinions (if you don't believe me,try telling a Berkely grad that you don't think governments have all the answers).The Malibu location isn't as great as it sounds. Yes, the beach and the surfing and the star gazing are there, but college students want night life. There's just a couple bars and thats it. And if you want to drink alcohol AT ALL you have to DRIVE off campus. This is a very dangerous mix. I had two friends die in alcohol related accidents while I was here, and I can't help feeling that the dry campus was partly to blame.Best advice: put in the effort to get the most out of whatever school you chose. Look for the solution within. |
