There are so many things that I was not taught, especially when it comes to really useful information instead of just theory and conjecture. We didn't get any really high quality instruction on teaching methods in specific disciplines and it seemed that all we did was learn this or that person's theory on how kids learn and how to write up a lesson plan. I would have liked to have had more instruction on how to deal with certain behaviors, both from students and parents, and specific strategies on how to teach specific skills. I just took the Praxis test for teachers to get my Missouri license and there was so much on it that I had not been taught about in college so I don't even know if I passed it. I could go on and on but overall, I find that as far as preparing teachers to teach, Illinois College does a dismal job. |
