This is a moderately sized state university known for its forestry and hotel management programs. Everything else I would estimate is standard-fare. Due to state budget cuts and mismanagement (students are doing the work of what a full-time staff should be provided for), the school feels haphazardly run. There is not a personal relationship with the school, you are a number, and the advisory help is poor. On the positive side, there is a fantastic library, the town of Flagstaff is beautiful, the campus is nice and the school costs are low. This is not an environment of serious-minded students pursuing college for an education. There is somewhat of a party atmosphere, and most kids are there to get a degree and enter the job market. I found very people to talk to or make friends with; a very poor intellectual environment within the student body. Most young people just want to drink and party—it's a wonder they make it through school and out of it (then again, few do). I can't afford to go anywhere else, though. |
