I will say the faculty is the strength of this school (and some of the faculty the ONLY good thing about this school) and when I was there it leaned dispensational in theology and noncharismatic, but the school so warps its faculty and students under the name of Christian education, it is not even funny, and worse sends them out to run churches and ministries. The surrounding area hates Moody, and it isn't JUST because they are naive about MBI and all nonChristians or unreligious, it's because MBI is NOT INVOLVED IN ANY POSITIVE RESPECT IN CHICAGO, but bent on thrusting its doctrine up people (no wonder it shocked people when the mayor dropped by one year). THIS LACK OF TRUE INVOLVEMENT IN CITY MINISTRIES HAS RIGHTFULLY TURNED OFF MOST OF THE CITY TO MBI—I can't even stand to listen to the radio which is mostly pretaped programming like most radio stations. I did learn how to find books on ministry from MBI and how to HELP MYSELF a bit better, but ministries required were poorly designed and every person for themselves. But the ungodly costs you pay just to get basics of theological world down are phenominal—a good room and board fee, no contact with society, no movies, certainly no going out, and socialization only in church settings is allowed or a few coffeeshops. I can't even begin to list the negative and UNBIBLICAL THINGS about this school (and I don't want to here I'd be writing all week), it's worse that spending every nite out in a nite club getting wasted—they treat you like you are in 6th grade—and I just don't buy donor support or safety of students as valid excuses for these naive policies. The chapels are horrible, not because they don't bring in good speakers, but because that is all they have done and they have to require chapel. HELLO? REQUIRE CHAPEL AT A BIBLE COLLEGE? (alarm bell goes off) RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU WANT TO BE FORCED I said FORCED to go to church??? ANY TAKERS? I didn't think so…yet forcing chapels is exactly what moody has to do with its students—because Moody doesn't live by the policy that students will want to come if the chapels are real—but that your attendance is manadory no matter how lamely you connect with those around you. I cannot underestimate how I think this school has damaged the ministry in this country and possibly worldwide. Right now, MBI is probably nothing like the school DL Moody founded. Its a disgrace, yet because society is so dead spiritually the school can get by to many Christians asthe greatest thing in the world.It has a fair following of Chicago believing churches—and larger following usa-wide because usa-wide see the good books of Moody publishing and not what is going on in Chicago. (by the way, Chicago churches are in a huge mess right now—pastors pointing fingers at everything and anyone possible yet changing nothing themselves) MBI also has closet gays and lesbians in the school, many who graduate (I'm not one of them). Others I seriously think have gone gay just from the stress of going to MBI. I mention no names but I have heard plenty of sad things.You won't get a social life at this school (don't even think about dating—they say its better last few years but I'd have to see it myself to believe that after how little contact anyone had with the opposite sex here when I was at achool) so enter it only if you want to sit in a dorm and study for 4 years straight and think that is all ministry is about. Furthermore, the fact that few students stay in Chicago to minister after their MBI experience shows you the real involvment MBI has in the community. Yeah its a missions school and people head out, but the number of people who stay in a ministry in Chicago after graduating MBI has to be incredibly small.Thats a fact, bro or sis. Most MBI students BOLT the city as fast as possible to get out of MBI and never stay here to fight the cities problems that MBI tells you are massive while you are in school. HELLO? Can anyone put 2 and 2 together?My words are a solid WARNING to anyone who would attend this place—going there gave me years of issues I had to work out afterwards as a Christian—that is no joke. Any I know several other people as well who tell me the exact same thing. This school does a great job of deceiving young minds into thinking they are the best school on earth for ministry. Not only that, it continually brings in big speakers and christian musicians to back its prestige—because hey they aren't changing a thing in the city.Right now, they are having Founder's Week or will soon—a week in which all the students are required to listen to the big name preachers come in for conferences. Wanna know something? I don't remember a single speech from any of these big namers in all my 4 of them I attended—other than the president pleading to be generous in your giving. Very few people from outside attend this event - maybe few hundred if that. MBI literally moves all its student body there in order to fill the church. Um wouldn't someone from the city go if this was a big deal? Guess not—some people do go but sure seems like most the church is MBI students. |
