Cal Poly has many good programs, and the large majority of Professors are helpful and extremely friendly- they seem to love staying after class to talk with students. GE classes are usually pretty easy, but some of the upper-division courses can require a ton of reading and studying just to pass with a "C"… but I'm sure all universities have similar classes. The campus itself is beautiful (lots of trees, grass, agriculture, ponds, etc.) but it's in a bad location and it can be dangerous to walk around alone at night- stolen cars and people being robbed aren't too uncommon. The big downside to this school is that the social aspect really needs some help. Everyone I meet is super-friendly, but because it's a "commuter campus" it's difficult to make good friends, find good parties or places to hang out, etc.- most people just go to class then leave campus and go do their own thing, therefore I don't think you really get the whole "college experience" at this school (I've applied for transfers to several other universities because of this). It doesn't help that Cal Poly doesn't have a big athletic program either(aside from basketball- we don't even have a football team!)so it's difficult to have a lot of school spirit. All in all it's a good school if you're really into your studies and don't care too much about the social aspect of things. |
