A lot of in coming freshman expect to be personally entertained in class by their professors, and when that doesn't happen, they are very dissapointed. As a freshman I can complain about the size of classes, foreign TA'S, GER classes that suck, and the list goes on. But, in the actual reality, those are issues at EVERY university of this size, not just WSU. Pullman's a small town, so the area isn't exactly flourishing with obvious things to do. Remember, a full time student usually doesn't have a whole lot of spare time to be doing a lot anyways. A great thing about WSU is the campus environment that is here. I have some friends at the UW in Seattle that feel that the students there have a very weak bond and community set. I suppose that has to be a credit of the size of Pullman almost forcing people to hang out with each other. Now the shopping and restaurant selections here are very small, but I really can't thik of too many college students who could even AFFORD to shop at BCBG'S and Armani exchange every week. I guess the real issue here is people FEEL isolated. This is important, I have friends at the UW, University of Oregon, Wash U in St. Louis and other big cities that complain about not having things to do also. Enjoy school and work hard. If you can't find anything to do, there are plenty of sports and clubs, not to mention special functions and speakers to go see. You can also take up outdoor activites like camping and fishing that are very popular with the locals here. When in Rome… :) |
