What do I think of Pratt? Well… not too much. As a graduate student in industrial design who had worked several years in the graphic arts trade, going back to school (Pratt) was quite a challenge in patience and anger management. I originally wanted to attend Rhode Island School of Design, but being married and living in N.Y. made it more convenient to ride the slow train to Brooklyn.

Anyway my biggest disappointment was with the administration. From the idiot admissions director to the incredibly lazy and apathetic people who worked the offices throughout campus, I'm not sure how I managed to get through those arduous two years without hurting someone. As for the professors? They're ok. Most were stuck in their heyday of the sixties and seventies, and taught in the manner they were taught—ancient techniques. Beyond classes, you really had to push yourself and learn the stuff on your own because most professors didn't have offices, and some did not wanted to be contacted after class time.

Retrospectively, I do regret going there. I learned lot of design theories and eventually got a decent job after graduation, but the sore memories were too much to bare. My experience during undergraduate studies at Univ. of Texas at Arlington, was much, much more pleasant and far more memorable. And naively, that's what I'd expected at Pratt.
