I would not really listen to the negative comments made about CMU. Actually, it is a great place to learn and a fabulous campus to live on. I have been to pretty much every campus in Michigan, and CMU is gorgeous. Not to mention that there is a lot to do, and great parties! The people here are friendly and nice, and you can make some great friends. I think a lot of people leaving negative comments are really arrogant and dont like to go out and mingle with people!
