The administration is horrible and completely apathetic towards the students. RPI cares more about looking good than doing good for its students. It spends more money on making fancy new buildings and putting pretty designs and flowers on the sidewalks than giving the students more. There are a few favored student clubs and activities that get money and support, and the others are given practically nothing by the Union and have to pretty much support themselves. If students try to stand up for what's right, the administration shoots them down and tries to break their spirit (and most students at RPI do have broken spirits). They're blacklisted and labeled troublemakers. Not officially, of course, but it's obvious in the retribution that occurs later. Students are nothing more but money suppliers to RPI, and that's why many of the students aside from those in frats are miserable. Some will say that you just have to go be active and join clubs and whatever. The problem is, you have to join the "right" club in order to really enjoy yourself. Otherwise, if you're not in a favored club, you're pretty much screwed for anything you want to do. This school is all about getting money to make themselves look good (not getting money to do things to help the students) and raking the students for every penny in the process. This is not the school for an independent spirit, because they don't like independent spirits. That's why they just changed the slogan of the school from "Why not change the world?" to "One word says it all - Rensselaer." Also, the Student Union is now called the Union, and even the Student Union rules and regulations are now called "guidelines." The administration rules everything and the students have no voice whatsoever. Those who speak up are targeted and broken down. |
