Statistical Analyzer:

Central State University is a textbook example of what academic substandards, instructional, and financial mismanagement will do to a university. As a transfer student coming from a respected community college with a high GPA to boot, I was absoutely apauled by the lack of building maintenance/repair, scholastic supplies/equipment,and customer service to name a few. As an African American, the present state of Central State University makes me sick to my stomach. The science department caters to pre-med students but has not had a student go to medical school in over 13 years. Out of 130+ declared biology majors, only 6 graduated in 2004, and none had a GPA above a 2.8. The pass rate on the praxis exam for education majors is about 23-30% compared to about 70% for all other colleges in the state of Ohio. The only reason I believe why the state of Ohio has not closed this school is because politicians are scared to be labled a racist. You have to see this school to believe it!! There are very good HBCU's out there, but Central State University is definitely not one of them. If you are considering about attending this university I implore you to do some background research on the institution. Ask the school to provide you statistical information (IN WRITING)on retention rates (freshmen and upper classmen), the number of students who were addmitted and successfuly completed graduate/professional school, and the pass rate on the praxis exam for education majors. Last but not least,… shop and compare the school with others. I am now attending another state university and am proud to say I am doing very well. Take care and god bless.
