I would like to, but I just cannot give this school a positive review. I will try to summarize my 3 1/2 years as briefly as possible.

There is no consistency of academic programs here. Some are among the best there are and others could barely pass as high school level. Molecular biology is what I have been most impressed with. All of the molecular bio teachers I have had have been really good. The arts are a complete waste of time, don't even bother. Sciences range here between extremely good to sub-par, with biological sciences rounding out the top and physical sciences rounding out the bottom. Anything pre-professionally related is relatively good, which leads me to my next problem.

This is NOT a hard school to get into, but it is a hard school to stay at. The freshman return rate is under 50%. Keeping this in mind, you have 2 types of people who have my (or related) major. One are arrogant pissants who think they are God's gift to higher education. These people are generally overachieving morons who have survived by cheating, whinning, begging, or alumnus daddy's money. Every school has these types, but for a state school this one has a lot. The second type are idiots who should not even be in college, much less want to be doctors. This is mostly due to the Universities low admission standards. The MCAT tends to get this bunch out. They generally cruise by with a 2.0, graduate, and bum around for a year before they settle on the GRE and grad school. Advising here is awful as well, so these 2.0 wonders are never told that no medical school will even breath in their direction. The college of Health Sciences will not graduate those under a 2.5, so most of them come for Zoo/Phys. Those 2 groups comprise the majority of medical majors, however there are splinter factions of these groups. The cut-throats and non-traditional tokens and are among them. I have not the time nor the ambition to talk about all the subsets. These are the 10-15% that actually survive their first 2 years too. The teachers are really demoralizing and those without the drive to be successful (85-90%) end up switching to elementary education, psychology, or another garbage disposal program. Please take note that these statistics are what I have seen and not what the school says.

If you can teach yourself then this school is very good. If you have a problem with motivation/attitude and need help from teachers a lot, do not come within 100 miles of this place. The trailer parks of this town act as a graveyard for all the people that this school has taken in, chewed up, and spit out. The school claims that they have gotten the freshman retention rate up to 70%, but that is bs. You can drive by the dorms at anytime during the fall semester and see freshmen packing up to move home. Needless to say, if you come here wanting to have fun from the start it will be a short stay.

I would not recommed this school to people who have transient majors. These are the people who do not settle on a major until their junior year. Also, if you change your major you can assume you will have to start from scratch credit wise. They do not like to tranfer credit and they love money, this makes for a 7 year degree that should have taken you 4. Mainly, if you are used to doing what you are told and not really thinking about your decisions do not come here. Be honest with yourself, i have seen those types (in some cases people I went to high school with) come here and get rolled. You know the types, 4.0+ high school GPA, NHS, community volunteer, top 10%, what have you. I cannot cite any specific clubs or activities because I had to work in high school. If you are one of these overachievers I am talking about, it would be a good idea for you to stay away. Do not come here thinking you can repeat your high school successes, especially if you did not really earn them (like I said, be honest with yourself). This place will show you failure, or atleast it will redefine your interpretation of failure. Either way, no matter who you are you will experience failure on some level at some point. You have to be prepared for that or else at the first sign of impending trouble you will run home.

Now for some positive aspects of this school. Price. Where it may seem overpriced considering the teaching staff, it is really very reasonable for the degree you recieve. It is a degree from a research university, therefore, it would be best to get a lucrative one. Lets face it, a communications degree from Harvard is just as useless as one from here. Atleast here you will not be in debt upwards of a quarter million when you are graduated. That is, of course, if you are planning on slacking it for four years. If you are not, and you want to have a real major, come here prepared and focused or else you will not survive.

That is basically all I have to say, anything else would be a reiteration of what I already said. I want you to take this home, so I will type it in all caps. THIS SCHOOL FAILS A LOT OF PEOPLE. THE TEACHING STAFF IS A JOKE. THEY MAKE THE ACADEMICS AS HARD AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE SO THEY CAN FAIL AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT FEAR OF LOSING THEIR JOBS. THE STUDENTS WHO DO SURVIVE ARE GENERALLY DOUCHEBAGS WHO THINK THEY KNOW EVERYTHING, OR ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE HAPPY WITH JUST PASSING. IN EITHER CASE, BOTH PARTIES HAVE SERIOUS PERSONALITY FLAWS. THIS ONLY APPLIES TO REAL MAJORS AND NOT THE BS ONES.
