If you are a prospective student even considering The American Academy of Dramatic Arts you need to turn the other way and RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!! This school is regarded as a joke by everyone of any importance in Hollywood. The most highly regarded instructors haven't actually worked as actors for over 25 years. Students are regarded as no more than annoying children who cannot think for themselves or make their own creative decisions. And, as actors, you would think they would want to encouage independent thinking and creativity. This school is nothing more than a money sucking machine that produces substandard, naive actors who want nothing more than shallow fame. The American Academy of Dramatic Arts is NOT a real college. You will not receive an education beyond deep breathing and making sure you are on time. Believe me, you will be much better off going to a 4 year, libral arts school which will expose you to great works of literature and world history. The more you can read and educate yourself about the world around you, the better actor you will be. DO NOT give these people your money for their pathetic excuse for an education. Since this is anonymous, I will admit that I attended this school for a very short amount of time until I realized what a complete joke it was and left. Luckily for me, I had already graduated from one of the best libral arts schools in the country so I did not need the "education", I simply wanted a starting point in L.A. When I was at the school, I felt that my life was on hold since students are not encouraged to work, audition, or do anything outside of this school. As soon as I left I became a company member of a theatre company in L.A. and began showcasing my work to casting directors and reputable talent agencies. Being an educated, well rounded and intelligent person is the most important part of being a good actor. Those who come right out of high school and let The American Academy of Dramatic Arts scam them into thinking they are getting a real education obviously do not have any of these qualities. And finally, this school will do absolutely anything for money. It has been documented that the school actively recruits and accepts (without an audition) relatives of celebrities who they believe will become big "names". They simply want to use their names in their marketing. In reality, Hollywood directors, casting agents, and even celebrities look at the school as a total joke. If you want to train to be an actor, please, PLEASE get a real education too. Many colleges can give you an excellent education as well as good theatre training. Do not let yourself be lured into this dead end trap of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. |
